Hope everyone had a lovely Valentines day~ I threw this piece together yesterday evening and a finished it off this morning. I'm a little bit excited about how this turned out because it illustrates some sort of epiphany I had.... I've never successfully painted much other than collage/psychedelic/surreal work and landscapes. There's actual subject matter here~!
So I had a lovely Valentines day... a lovely past week or so, actually. As a result, I think I gained a little more clarity while painting...
"Abysmal Glimpse", 16"x20", acrylics on canvas.
Initially, I'd considered just painting a pair of jellyfish But then an idea struck me ... for how far down in the ocean they live, I like to imagine their surprise upon finding a snow globe (likely on the verge of bursting under pressure). The scene depicted in the globe is foreign to them, but it offers a glimpse into another world, essentially. I also wanted to sort of personify the creatures by having them interact with the glass...stroking and halting it as it sinks. Just an idea~~~~

Beautiful! I love it. I'm working on a piece featuring jelly fish right now, but I could quite make them as transparent as I had hoped. This pretty much just showed me how to do it. I love your work.

Ahhh this must've been fun to paint!! :3 The black background is perfect for this and I really enjoy the touch of the added snowglobe. Very nicely shaded and overall the only touch I believe I would add is maybe a slight shade variance (gradiant.. ish type thing) to the background ? Though I'm not entirely sure if that would mess with it too much... anywho, very good job :)

I don't mind at all!  In fact, funny you should say so; I actually noticed this comment while revisiting it the picture myself, just a few moments ago!  I just recently got this piece back from my last show and it's framed and hanging in my living room.  I keep looking up at it and just losing myself -- with most pieces I can recall my thoughts from every step in the process of creating it, but this one was painted in such a state of bliss that it's hard for me to even remember painting it!  It doesn't feel possible, almost.  
And even though I've updated the photo -- this still doesn't even compare to what it looks like in person. :P 

Just today, I realized that it might go to good use in a hospital setting, since they're all always looking for artwork.  I don't think I'm ready to sell the original, but I might get prints made up and distribute them to healing art galleries and whatnot.

i think the painting is ideal for healing art, it just emotes peacefulness. If it were me I'd keep that painting and have prints made.
