Description

Again, I'm not much of a photographer, but beautiful things tend to show up out of the blue and I like to keep their image.:) I don't have the best of cameras, I'm afraid.

I believe this was taken over the summer. There's a forest of milkweed in my backyard and these little dogbane beetles (got the name) get their color or something from the plant. I used to know a little more.:P
These bugs love to be photographed. I have so many pictures of them -- I particularly love this one because he was standing on some really lovely colors.

Anyway, just more beautiful images I felt like sharing. I don't usually post photos...I hope you enjoy~!

Hi, my name is Aura Dawn. Am a 3d artist but once was a glamor, fashion, and illustrative photographer. My critiques are not to praise the photographer but to give advise to help improve the artist. You have the right to accept this critique or not to. Know that it takes time to review a piece of art and I do this as a courtesy as wish others would do for me.

First let me say, it is not the camera that makes a photographer. A camera is only a tool. I've seen pictures taken with a simple point and shoot that were as good as one taken with a large format camera.

The insect that you have photographed is a Japanese Beetle. Some have called it a June bug. It loves to eat our flowers. Your lucky it only eats your weeds. Ok, that said. Must tell you that it is a well taken picture. You are having a slight problem with the depth of field which is caused by the aperture being open to far. F16 would bring more into focus. It is really noticeable when it comes to the beetles hind leg.

It looks like you added the due drops to the picture to try and enhance it. I say this because the due drops and splotches of water in the foreground are in focus when they should not be. Also believe that is the reason the hind legs is out of focus. The color light spray you talk about is muted and barely noticeable. Also you should have filled more of the frame with your insect since it was main focus of the print. As it is the due drops and splotches of water just takes that away. Somehow believe the print would have better without the insertion of water drops. To have two different water marks is overkill, Of course maybe the 20.4 isn't a watermark.

Having the subject slightly off center was good.

If you want to experiment, get a thin piece of plastic, drill a hole about a quarter inch or a about 3 millimeters and put it over the lens. smear Vaseline over the rest of it and take the picture, since the beetle was being so nice and posing for you. This might give you what you are looking for.
