Vermilion Stupor of Sound by Mivala Vermilion Stupor of Sound by Mivala
"Vermilion Stupor of Sound"

Getting by on my mood again, acrylics on 16"x20" canvas.
Subject matter? Seems to me I painted either a flaming Aurora Borealis or a rather unlucky mountain range -- entirely up to you to decide. At some point I was reminded of a dream I once had and ended up finishing with that in mind. Often when I dream of surreal landscapes, I see them from this perspective; I'm usually facing my left, somehow balancing edges that overlook either the water or sky. Fun fact for ya~
Themes? I deviated a little from influence and reflected on magnetism and repetition....everything being cyclical...rather, the usual, but in a different context!
More experiments with color -- I'm fond of warm colors but I have trouble painting with them, so today was arguably an exercise in their usage. Enjoy!

I suck at using color in general.:'D I don't quite understand how to use different colors in an image...I get tones and shades mixed up and it's a grand little mess, lol

the general rule of thumb that I was taught is that every color in a piece, every section of color has at least three variations of that color-a brighter version, the true color, and the darker version.

Whether that helps you, or makes any sense, I have no idea.

That kind of helps, actually. I figured there was something like that to know, but another struggle of mine is just... the big picture. Things have to be spelled out for me sometimes.

Let me know when you start trying this, and I'll see if it makes a difference :-)

(Unless you already have. I haven't been here this week until today. It's been....crazy. But if you look at most of my pieces, I bet you can notice what I told you)

BAH! I was actually a little overcome by an idea on this last piece ([link]). I'll have to sticky note the color advice to my workspace. Had I remembered, I believe the shadows on the sand may have been of the same tone as the sand itself, rofl

Tryyyy it! I'm curious as to how it will affect your work. It had a huge result on mine.

It's one of those thigns that, when you actually hear it, you feel stupid for not catching it earlier. (I know that's how I felt, anyway)

Nice monochromatic! The water is so fluid and reflective, it's almost as if you copy and pasted a lake at sunrise/sunset (a bit smoothed out). This piece actually reminds me of a Japanese film called Dreams. One of the stories shows Mount Fuji burning, I believe, because one of the power plants in Japan had a major meltdown. Interesting movie to check out if you have the chance :).

I get kind of bored if I work in one medium for too long....that, and I'm rather social and I love being able to communicate effectively with artists of all mediums, lol :')
