STANDING STRONG FOR OUR PRECIOUS WATER:

ART EXHIBITION AND CONCERT BENEFIT FOR STANDING ROCK

On Friday, December 9, 2016, roughly 100 artists from across the region are coming together raise funds to benefit the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation in North Dakota.  The event, titled Standing Strong for Our Precious Water, will be hosted by the American Indian Community Housing Organization (AICHO) in the American Indian Center, located at 202 W. 2nd Street in Duluth, MN.  It will begin with the public art opening at 5:00 p.m., followed by a concert featuring performances by musicians Keith Secola, Annie Humphrey, Lyz Jaakola, Richie Townsend, Jake Vainio and others at 7:00 p.m.   The call for artwork related to the #NoDAPL Movement, Standing Rock, or the sacredness of water will be open until December 1 AICHO plans to open up its entire building to accommodate the show, including its two small art galleries as well as Trepanier Hall.  The event is open to the public and there is a suggested $10 donation to attend; a light, traditional meal will be provided.

For the first time in over 200 years, all the native tribes in the United States have come together, standing strong with the Standing Rock reservation in North Dakota and advocating on behalf of human rights and the safety and sacredness of our shared water supply.  Aside from motivating thousands of people to camp on site and march in solidarity with the water protectors, the movement to resist the Dakota Access Pipeline has also been a source of inspiration for artists across Indian Country.  AICHO works closely with many of these indigenous artists to integrate art into the healing process for American Indian families who’ve been impacted with homelessness; hosting such a culturally relevant and important exhibit in the Gimaajii building seemed to be a natural fit....

Recovery sucks

1 min read
Recovering from elbow surgery.  They really downplay how much work that actually entails, ha! :P
Surgery was a success, tho this past year has worn on my arms quite a bit.  I imagine a good portion of 2016 will be spent trying to fix them.  4 more weeks in a brace, a few months more of physical therapy....

Still doing shows every month (3 this month!) so that's always fun.

Moral of the Story: Take caution with your art... there is such a thing as painting, drawing and writing too much!! :') Take it easy. Meditate.

Thanks for support!

Yes yes,
Elbow surgery tomorrow.
Life is a mess.
But my spirit is well.
I should be able to make art again next year! ;)
I actually can paint, but general pain has made me apathetic towards doing anything this past few months.  I am finishing a large request tonight as my last piece before surgery ....it gives me hope! So long as the surgery and recovery goes well, I think I'm already good to hold paintbrushes again. :)
What might take longer is getting adjusted to typing ..... sucks right now.....

Regardless, happy new year! Happy holidays! Much love....

... it's been a full year of physical therapy, occupational therapy, chiropractics and acupuncture and shots and stretches, meditation, both gua sha & Graston bruising techniques, baoding balls, oranges, multiple miscellaneous arm, wrist, elbow, and thumb braces, over 15 different medical professionals, much napping, many walks, much pain, many friends .....

I'm officially booked for elbow surgery in the next month or so to get rid of all the damage! Which means more of all of the above but hopefully within a designated and effective time-frame!

Typing is still a bit of a nightmare ... just know, I appreciate a a lot of the kind words you've shared with me and all of the support!
My life as an artist hasn't settled down... still doing different exhibits, workshops, shows, etc. every month.  Grateful, grateful ...

Can't wait to paint more, but for now, all life requires is much patience!!

Much love,
Moira

Hey hey, virtual friends and followers who remain!

I can't really type all that much anymore. It's been about 7 months of difficulty with my right thumb, arm, wrist .... now shoulders .... painting doesn't seem to be in my future, but it's been long enough now that I've come to terms with that. It's painful to type...write...draw...click...paint....moooooooooooooove...... I'm discovering new ways to be creative, though.

This might be my last update for awhile.  I do have left hand pastels to share soon, but my lengthy descriptions might be a little limited.

soooooooooooooooooooooooooo many comments....
I want to respond but I physically can't .... but I so appreciate your responses as well as the sense of normalcy/familiarity they provide, haha

In the mountains of things I want to say, that's all I can for now.

Ciao for now! <3
